Mission
Mission – Empowering the Vulnerable
To deliver humanitarian assistance and protect human rights for all, without discrimination, while empowering vulnerable women, men, girls and boys to overcome poverty, exclusion and inequality.
The Sustainable Goals Organization for Afghanistan (SGOA) is a women led, non governmental, non political and non profit organization established in 2020 and officially registered with the Ministry of Economy. Founded by a group of highly educated Afghan professionals, SGOA was created to advance social justice, gender equality and inclusive development in communities affected by conflict, poverty and inequality.
As a grassroots organization, SGOA combines strong community engagement with structured institutional systems to design and deliver high quality, multi sector programs across Afghanistan. The organization operates through a clear governance and management structure, guided by a Board of Directors and led by an experienced executive team overseeing programs, operations, finance, compliance and partnerships.
Women are at the core of SGOA’s identity and operations. With approximately 63 percent female staff and women in key leadership roles, the organization ensures that its work is grounded in local realities and responsive to the needs of women and girls, particularly in conservative and hard to reach areas.
SGOA works with vulnerable and marginalized populations including women, children, youth, internally displaced persons, returnees and people with disabilities. Its integrated approach spans education, livelihoods, food security, health, psychosocial support, WASH, social cohesion and community infrastructure, aiming to address both immediate humanitarian needs and long term development challenges.
Through strong partnerships with UN agencies, international organizations, government institutions and local civil society, SGOA has established itself as a trusted Afghan partner capable of delivering impactful, locally led and sustainable solutions.

Founded in 2020, the Sustainable Goals Organization for Afghanistan (SGOA) began as a volunteer driven initiative led by a group of young Afghan professionals committed to addressing urgent humanitarian needs and advancing gender equality. In its early phase, the organization focused on small scale, community based interventions, including awareness campaigns and emergency support during critical periods such as the COVID 19 pandemic. Despite limited resources, SGOA quickly established a reputation for responsiveness, community trust and strong local engagement, particularly in Kandahar and surrounding areas.
From 2022 onward, SGOA transitioned into a structured and expanding organization, formalizing its systems, strengthening governance and building partnerships with national and international actors. Between 2023 and 2025, the organization significantly scaled its operations, implementing multi sector programs across education, WASH, food security, livelihoods and health in multiple provinces. By 2025, SGOA had reached over 100,000 people across 8 provinces, demonstrating its capacity to manage complex projects and deliver impactful, gender responsive and locally led interventions. Today, SGOA continues to grow as a trusted Afghan partner, positioning itself to expand nationwide and reach at least 1.5 million people by 2030.
